Celebrating Family Solutions Institute’s Legacy: Over 97,000 AMFTRB Exam Success Stories since 1993
For three decades, Family Solutions Institute has been a cornerstone in MFT exam preparation, helping over 97,000 candidates achieve success in the AMFTRB National Licensing Exam.
The Evolution of Family Solutions Institute
Family Solutions Institute (FSI) has a storied history dating back to its founding in 1993 by Rob Guise, Jackie Gagliardi, and Michael Vickers. Originally a post-graduate MFTy training institute, FSI underwent a significant transformation in 2000 when Rob Guise took over and pivoted the focus toward comprehensive, multi-modality study materials tailored specifically for the AMFTRB National Examination for Marriage and Family Therapy candidates. Located in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, FSI is the natural evolution of the Kantor Family Institute. Over the years, the institute has expanded its faculty and refined its preparation programs to meet the needs of over 97,000 candidates, making it a cornerstone in AMFTRB National Licensing Exam preparation.
Innovative Resources and Study Materials
FSI has developed a unique approach to study materials that efficiently integrates all the major concepts and theoretical models of marriage and family therapy. The resources guide students in translating vast theoretical knowledge and real-world clinical experience into the exam’s linear format, which is crucial for success.
From the renowned ‘Big Green Book’ to the Virtual Workshop series, FSI’s resources simplify the complexity of MFT theories. These materials are designed to help candidates ‘hold in mind’ the various theoretical models and apply them effectively during the exam, thereby increasing their chances of passing on the first attempt.
Collaborations with Accredited MFT Programs
FSI’s commitment to excellence is further demonstrated through its collaborations with accredited MFT programs. Capella University is one of FSI’s largest partners; other notable collaborations include Seattle University, Texas State University, and Adler University.
These partnerships allow FSI to integrate its study resources directly into the curriculum of these programs, providing students with seamless access to high-quality preparation materials as part of their formal education.

The Expertise Behind the Success
FSI’s foundation is deeply rooted in the Kantor Family Institute, where David Kantor, a Boston-based meta-theorist, trained many of the experts affiliated with FSI. Kantor’s ‘model of models’ approach to family systems therapy has significantly influenced FSI’s study materials.
Since its inception, FSI has grown to include numerous additional faculty members who have fine-tuned the institute’s world-class study materials. These experts, many of whom are seasoned instructors and nationally recognized authors in the MFT field, bring decades of experience in supervising and training marriage and family therapists.
A Legacy of Success and Future Aspirations
Family Solutions Institute’s legacy is defined by its impressive milestone of over 97,000 MFT exam success stories. This achievement underscores the institute’s unwavering commitment to helping candidates pass the AMFTRB National Licensing Exam.
Looking ahead, FSI aims to continue evolving its study materials and expanding its collaborative efforts with accredited MFT programs. The institute remains dedicated to providing high-quality, innovative resources that empower future generations of marriage and family therapists to succeed.
