In this introductory course, you will study the systemic theoretical framework of the family counseling profession. You will distinguish family counseling systems theories from theories of other, individual-based mental health disciplines. You will evaluate the philosophy and clinical practice theories of marital and family counseling from a historical perspective. You will also examine the fundamental therapeutic concepts and skills needed to work with couples and families. This course provides the foundation upon which all other courses in this specialization are based. Note that these course materials are for COUN5220.
